Armour of God
Handwritten scripture , steel armature
A Christian life is a battle. It is warfare on a grand scale as we struggle in a world that is in contradiction to our beliefs. To be able to walk through the world safely and confidently we must put on The Armour of God . That way when we are confronted , we are able to stand firm safe in the knowledge that we will be protected. It is something all christians need to do daily. So that we will be able to stand firm in our beliefs and share them with others.
Tristan Griffin, 2014

Introductory paragraph [ Rationale ]

A Christian life is a battle. It is warfare on a grand scale as we struggle in a world that is in contradiction to our beliefs.
To be able to walk through the world safely and confidently we must put on The Armor of God . That way when we are confronted , we are able to stand firm safe in the knowledge that we will be protected. It is something all christians need to do daily. So that we will be able to stand firm in our beliefs and share them with others.Through a sculptural installation Tristan's intention is to explore the nature of the armour of god.

What is the project about [Personal vision]

“ Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” ephisians 6

visually Tristan is interested in making the invisible , visible and visible , invisible
the armour of god is waiting for everyone
surviving the onslaught of a world that is in contradiction to christian beliefs is a battle they face their entire lives . To defend themselves in this spiritual battle they can adorn the Full armor of God , and when used properly and worn daily, it provides solid protection.
Through a sculptural installation Tristans intention is to explore the nature and availability of the armour of god.
to be able to walk through the 'world' a christian needs to wear the armour of god.
The Christian life is a battle. It is warfare on a grand scale as they struggle to walk in a world that is in contradiction to their beliefs. It is not an individuals strength they have that is important but the strength they have through the lord. To defend themselves in this spiritual battle they can adorn the Full armor of God , and when used properly and worn daily, it provides solid protection.

to oppose Satan, but when we are strong in the Lord, even a little of His strength is sufficient to win any battle.

The Full Armor of God is invisible, but also real, and when used properly and worn daily, it provides solid protection against a world that is in contradiction to christian beliefs.

What is the artwork about : Surviving in the world
encounter: prayer vision
revelation/experience: serendipitous action , opened to scripture , continued application to be able to survive in the world.
The armour of god is invisible/transparent so that the spiritual being within it can be seen , radiant.
But we as christians need this spiritual armour , we need it to be strong to be able to survive in a world that is in contradiction to our own beliefs.

Paul refers to the whole armor (panoplia, pan-op-lee'-ah) as being one word as opposed to two, and seems to imply that the armor was an all or nothing proposition. Then he tells us what the armor is for. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. So the armor is for us to take a stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood. So it is not to be used against mankind. Unfortunately, the first thing some new believers do is to put on the armor and begin to do battle with unbelievers. Just as bad are the believers that do battle with other believers. But this is not what the armor of God is for.
He speaks of the wiles (methodeia) of the devil. Methodeia is a Greek word that denotes a path or roadway that is traveled over. This is because the devil continuously attempts to secure a foothold so that he may begin construction of a roadway to your mind.

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier” (2 Timothy 2:3, 4, NKJV).God’s Armor—Not Man’s

the armour is available to all christians and the armour of god will protect all christians as they walk through the world
put on the armour of god to survive the onslaught of the world

The Full Armor of God may be invisible, but it's just as real, and when used properly and worn daily, it provides solid protection against the Enemy's onslaught.

The Belt (of Truth): "Stand firm in the belt of truth buckled around your waist" Ephesians 6:14. The belt of truth involves two places; our hearts and our minds. Truth keeps us secure in Christ and makes effective all the other pieces of armour. The belt of truth holds our amour in place. Commit yourself daily to walk in the light of God's truth. "Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth!" Psalm 86:11

The Breastplate (of Righteousness): "with the breastplate of righteousness in place," Ephesians 6:14 - A soldier with a breastplate goes into battle boldly with confidence. The devil is constantly attacking with lies, accusations and reminders of past sin. Without the breastplate of righteousness, these will penetrate your heart. Become aware of who you are in Christ Jesus. Come boldly into His presence (Hebrews 4:16).
The Shoes (of Peace & Preparation): "For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared." Ephesians 6:15 - Shoes allow us to step freely and without fear while we turn our full attention to the battle at hand. They aid in our movement and defense. The shoes God gives propel us onward to proclaim the true peace, which is available in Christ. Prepare yourself to follow the Lord no matter what.

The Shield (of Faith): "Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one." Ephesians 6:16 - The shield not only defends our whole body but also our armor. The shield of faith has a very specific function, which the Bible makes abundantly clear: quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Not some but all of them. The shield moves with the attack no matter the direction.

The Helmet (of Salvation): "Take the helmet of salvation." Ephesians 6:17 - Satan's target: Your mind. Satan's weapon: Lies. The enemy wants to make us doubt God and our salvation. The helmet protects our minds from doubting the truth of God's saving work for us. "Since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a Helmet of the Hope of Salvation" 1 Thessalonians 5:8

The Sword (of The Spirit): Put on "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:17 - The sword is the only weapon of offense in the armor, but it is also a tool for defense. Strongholds, arguments and thoughts are all weapons the enemy uses against us. With the Sword of the Spirit, God's word, the people are equipped to deal with them all. We need to trust in the truth of God's Word. Have confidence in the value of God's word. Get a hunger and desire for it
